Workshops

Since the launch of my new website I have been increasingly getting emails and walk-in visitors asking about how to pick the right size lampshade for a lamp, and how long does it take to make a shade, and can I make “this” (whatever “this” is!) into a lamp.

Starting in May I will be extending my hours (Thurs. – Sat. 11-5 and Sun. 11-3), and will also kick off FREE monthly workshops on the second Saturday of each month, to help answer some of those questions, and more.

May 8 and June 12 are the first two workshops, from 9-11 AM each of those days.

Topics we’ll cover include: how to fit a lamp with a lampshade, revamping a dated lamp with a new shade, basic construction of a shade, and different things you can make into a lamp.

The workshop will also include an inside look to “the Lampshade Lady’s” world. Come see my vintage paper and fittings and trimmings collections, and learn about how I got into this, etc.–and have a cup of tea!

Hopefully those who attend will be inspired to spruce up their decors with a new shade or a new lamp fashioned from some treasure they own.

Fall, my favorite season for change.

Recently, I was reading one of my favorite blogs The Sister Project.

Each month I start off reading Sheilaa Hite’s horoscope and find that she has an amazing ability to sum up my life(I am a true Capricorn).  This months she talks about  “The whirlwind swirling around you is real.”  Well this is so true.

I was on a hunting trip a couple of weeks ago and found a large number of 19th century indoor shutters.  Fell in love with them.  Came back to my studio without them, pondering what can I do with all of these beautiful shutters.

I have been in my new studio space for a year and it needed a shake up.  Perfect, these shutters carved out a much needed office space for me to create in, at the same time gave the front of the studio a wonderful back drop for my fabulous collections.

Here is a snap shot of the new studio space, I am still working at putting together the office. Curtains are being made, lamps being rearranged.  I will keep you posted.

Shandell’s new studio

Shandell’s is getting ready to move into a fabulous new studio. Still located in Millerton, NY, Shandell’s will be located at the corner of Rt 44 (Main Street) & Rt 22, in a restored 1930′s garage. I have taken some pictures of the new space and will share with you the progress.

I found some great vintage pendant lights that are 1930′s army surplus, they give the space a great feel and lots of light, something I have been missing in the current studio. Shandell’s new studio will have a huge wall of windows for all to see what is going on. A parking lot and a great place to have a garden. I will shut the studio down the week of November 17th to move and reopen on November 28th, the day after Thanksgiving, which is the anniversary of Shandell’s journey in Millerton, NY.

Shandell’s will be starting our 5th year, come & explore.
