A couple of weeks ago I took a Sunday to go shopping with Eddie & Jaithan (my blogger pals). We went to Stormville Flea Market, I had not been in a couple of years. Luck was on our side that day, the sun came out and lots of treasures were found. The first find of that day are pictured above, an amazing pair of Mid Century iridescent glazed lamps with their original gold leaf bases. I made a pair of vintage wallpaper shades for them and they came alive again to brighten up someone’s life. To top them off in my box of baubles I found a pair of iridescent glazed finials.
If you are in the area come and visit or take a tour of Shandell’s galleries.
Spring Flowers Blooming Indoors

On a bright sunny day a couple of weeks ago, I stumble on a fabulous bolt of floral English printed linen in my basement. I remember when I bought this a couple of years ago falling in love with the pattern, spring time flowers on a beautiful linen from England. I brought the bolt into the studio and combed my collection of vintage lamps for a perfect combination for this fabric.
Well I think I found it. A pair of vintage white ceramic lamps, fashioned to look like either baskets or large knots of rope, I will let you try to figure it out.
I made a wonderful pair of shades out of the linen, trimming them with chartreuse grosgrain and a bright mossy green velvet. Topped the lamps off with a pair of iridescent porcelain finials that brings out the colors of the shades. These are made to make you smile, bringing spring time flowers indoors all years round.
Happy Spring,
Susan
Baubles, Finials and More
A lifetime collector and former decorative-arts store owner, I just cannot resist: decorative papers, vintage wallpapers, and all manner of baubles, trims and finials to finish off the lamps and shades I create. In the beginning, 15 years ago, my studio space was just an eight-by-ten bedroom, where I crafted in a frenzy. Now I have more room…and also more collections!

Shandell's is the creative home of me, Susan Schneider, a longtime collector of things vintage with a passion for recycling them into things that make you smile. Shandell's, a working lampshade and vintage lighting studio, is located at the corner of Route 22 and Route 44, at 5916 North Elm Avenue, Millerton, New York, 12546, housed in a newly renovated century-old building. I draw on a collection of thousands of unique handmade papers, antique wallpapers and other very special materials in my work. We are open Thursday through Saturday, 11 to 5, and by chance or appointment. (518) 789-6603.
